To be clear, it will remain here and operational, but in a browsable state only. You will not be able to log in, make posts, or view your private messages. All data I can expunge I will (e-mails, private messages, etc), and only the forum posts will remain. This will lock down and secure the site for the future, and minimize any effects of possible hacking.

At this time, a new Discourse-powered forum will be introduced, and an announcement post with a link to the new forum made as the final post on this site. I will also issue a 'Bulk Invite' to every forum member here who has earned veteran status and has been active in the last year.

This is all due to security concerns going forward, making us move to a modern forum software that is well-maintained.

Just to go over it once more: This forum will be closed and locked for use in a read-only state at the end of August 2025, and a new forum created on modern, currently maintained software.

Also at this time I will introduce a member-editable site: wiki.midwestaudio.club as well. This first addition to which will be downloads of venerable Excel worksheets (which most of us know well) created by Jeff Bagby. I'll continue to expand the wiki from there, and I hope others will help me build a repository of speaker-building knowledge accessible to all. I'm talking about detailing stuff like Hoffmann's Iron Law, basic concepts for enclosures, and so on. Also, I envision it as a place to record designs for those who wish to share them.

Thought I'd say a quick hello to everyone. I used to frequent the PETT forums; under the username ks neote. I also was at an inDIYana where I brought the large wooden 15in coaxial speakers; that were built by Henry Kloss and I restored.

Been a bit since I was active in the DIY audio community, life got busy. But as of ~3 years ago, I got what is kind of my dream job. Working at a small audio consulting company. All of the knowledge I learned about speakers from everyone on these audio forums was the reason I was able to get this job, so a big thank you to everyone! The company consults for integration of speakers or microphones in nearly every type of product. We have a full anechoic chamber, a HATS in a sound proof both, and a real sized listening room. I have learned an immense amount from my corworkers and hands on experience in all things audio. Also have access to a 3D printer and small workshop.

After settling into work some, I started up again with DIY speakers; of which I'll be posting about shortly. I have free use of the chamber and other tools after hours. I hope to give back to the community some, with projects and designs, and sharing what I have learned. Thank you once again to everyone for posting, debating, and educating me through all of the posts here and on other audio forums. I'm excited to be back in the DIY audio community again!

Destin, FL: we've never experienced clearer and warmer water than there. Totally awesome if you like salt water beaches and don't worry about shark attacks. But VERY expensive rooms and pretty much everything else (ie food).

Steamboat, CO: Pricey everything but you can't beat those beautiful mountains. Just remember to lather up with SPF50 as the sun/air temperature is very deceiving.

Right now we're thinking the 15th and 16th or the 22nd and 23rd of September. Similar format to what Mark used to do - Friday night at CSS and then Saturday in a hotel conference room.

I hadn't seen him in a long time and it was great to ride with him to the InDIYana event a few weeks ago. I know he was impressed with many of the new projects and had a great time talking with many of you.

Full disclosure: I really don't give a shit. The Best Western has been very accommodating and is as convenient as can be, but TBH, their listening space is far from exemplary.

In prior years, we've gathered at Grinnell College. I won't go into detail on their venues, but suffice it to say, they have several quality gathering spaces.
