Radiation Pattern of Oval -vs- Round Speaker Driver . . .

edited November 2023 in Related

Are there differences between them (subject) for widest radiation/dispersion?

Oval driver, oval radiation pattern. Shortest dimension of oval will be similar to round driver of same dimension. Same for longest dimension.

  • Thanks, dcibel.

So, if I just happened to use a 6X9 triaxial as a MT and oriented it with the long side vertical, it would reduce or eliminate floor and ceiling reflections while retaining the wider dispersion of a 6" driver on the horizontal axis, I gather.

Cover it with cloth and no-one is the wiser (and PEQ it to perfection crossed to a sub . . .).

  • Those first reflections occur at frequencies where the difference between 6" or 9" isn't going to make a lick of difference.

  • Even if Barbie told Ken he could build a large Home Theater system for their doll house?
