I thought I would try a tweeterless speaker after reading the InDIYana thread. This was before the tweeterectomy announcement. I have some old Tangband 3" full rangers with neo magnets, and 8 HiVi B3S 3" drivers. I also just picked up another set of MAC06 drivers. I thought one of them would make a good pairing.

Here were the options.
I built a box with a 6" PVC plug that I trimmed the top to get a better center to center distance.
I ended up going with the Tangband driver.
The Hivi driver was a little too low in sensitivity and needed a few more components.

I ended up crossing at ~400hz. The woofer is tuned to 44hz and should have an F3 of around 38hz. I have a few more components coming from JuleFidelity tomorrow for me to give them a listen
The Tang Band drivers are W3-881SI. I couldn't remember last night and did not want to unmount them to look at the part number. They look to be discontinued, but also look very similar to the W3-881SJ and W3-881SJF drivers.
Just a hopefully helpful suggestion. Try taking a nearfield woofer measurement and merge it with the far field measurement. Then go to the "scale" pull down menu in XSim and lower the minimum frequency to 20 Hz. This will give you a clearer picture of the woofer + lowpass filter response. It looks to me like you might have a 3 dB or so hump around 200 Hz. If there is, it can be mitigated by adjusting the filter's L to C ratio and possibly adding some resistance in series with the shunt cap. I think it's at least worth a look.
I will take a look at that. There is a hump there. If I add capacitance to that, it drops my impedance even more in that area. I was trying to balance it out. I will try your suggestion and see what happens.
I didn't do a close mic measurement with splice, (not real confident in how I have done it in the past) but I did take your advice and knocked that hump down. I just took a measurement, and it seems good enough to start listening and voicing. Blue is modeled, and orange is measured. A measurement platter to allow easier off axis measurements is next on the build list.
Listening time.
Good looking woofers
I got the crossovers built, and started priming the boxes today. I am just planning a single color rattle can on these. I only have about $150 in them so far
I made a little more progress on these. I decided to do a satin blue.
I like that, nice👍🏻
Time for some listening now that they are all together.
I just noticed the drivers are a bit dusty. Oops
I think you will like the bass out of those woofers. Cool design.
I have used the MAC06 drivers in a previous 2-way. I really liked them. I have a few future projects in mind to use them again. These ended up being a fun speaker. The full rangers do treble better than I expected. Definitely not better than a good tweeter, but still pretty good. Imaging is for sure a bit better with these not have any crossover above 400hz. So far, I am enjoying them.
