So a pair of 5" Revelators just fell into my lap

A 7-8L TM seems the most likely play here. These would most likely be owned (and likely underwritten) by a friend of mine. A friend who is currently holding my RS28A Continuums hostage.

Any reason not to pair it with the Seas DXT?

Give me your hot takes.

  • So, you have the coated 15W/8530K01 higher Q for sealed boxes? DanP used it a few years ago I think with the NEW LD25X in about that volume. I don't know that the DXT would be warranted as far as offset and directivity, but I think they would play nicely. You may find using a smaller profile tweeter is warranted being the box is so small, just to get everything inside the box. The DXT is kind of a real estate hog in terms of depth and such. And lastly, the 800-1k range on the woofer must be notched.
    Have fun!

  • I've never had a pair of Revelators fall in my lap. Lucky you!

    Yeah, seriously!
I recently had "my upstairs shower leaking through the kitchen ceiling" fall into my lap (literally).

  • If you want to stay in the scan family, there are a few scan tweeters on sale in Madisound. The D3004/6020 is the same price range as the DXT and is small format, if you don't already have the tweeter on hand.

Well, upon closer inspection, the model number is 15W/4531G06. That 06 is a bit of an unknown and I'm wondering if it was an OE version or something. My google searches aren't coming up with anything--I even tried bing. That's probably why I did not pay an arm & a leg for them.

They're uncoated, but with the bigger magnet like the 8531. But I'm going to walk back that enclosure size estimation until I get some measurements taken. "Smallish" bookshelf will still be the goal.

I've got a set of SB29RNDCs on the shelf, which would be the reasonable, "that'll do fine", solution. And some old stock Neo3PDRs, but I worry my buddy may not dig them coming from the RS28A. Also, I'm not sure I want to use them in a build that isn't for me. LOL

OH NO. My best friend had that happen to him. Rodents chewed through his PEX plumbing.

They eat PEX? Dang! Had them eat wires off cars before; twice. They ate holes in the air cleaner of the motorcycle as it set over winter. Ate holes in the shopvac air filter which made a mess in the shed when I turned it on, but PEX, that's not good at all.

  • They've never ate my copper water pipes :p

So, a 4 ohm uncoated lower Q like the 8530K00. Breakup will be worse uncoated, but Petey and Ryan preferred the uncoated version. They're not shielded, right? Honestly, I used XT25TG30 with my Rev 8530K00. The SS Discovery Beast Nipple is still a very good viable option. Petey used the RS28A in the Byzantiums 3ways. Jake Parsons paired his with the newer ET338. Paul Carmody used the Hiquphon. I think the RT1.3WE or 27TAC/GB could be a viable option too.
You have plenty of options with a midwoofer that nice.

I bet you'll want a vented or PR box with the larger motor, but the higher sensitivity 4 ohm version will be a plus.

Isn't that the name of MartyH's deep sea research vessel?

Also, I think this is going to be the tweeter. I've wanted to use an XT variant. Seems like a good time.

    It happened to him twice.

"My brother... perhaps you need to prevent their ingress?"
