I found a link to some Polish drivers called STX.
https://stx.pl/category/en/speakers?horizontal
They use mostly polycarbonate in their tweeter domes, and have some interesting tech uses including a true midrange with 4 shorting rings and a tweeter also with 4 rings/cap. Don't know what import fees and shipping would be, but these definitely look the part and initial cost is not awful.

Apparently there is also a company that now makes GLASS domes and cones called GAIT.

It appears Digikey sells them, and there is a review in the March 2025 VC issue where Vance takes note of their 1" dome tweeter that is coming soon.
(I don't get VC, but it was a cover shot at the bottom of an Audio Voice email blast.)
Just thought these were interesting...

Those look nice, should see what moq is for import.
Doesn't really give option to ship to US.
Nice! Thanks for posting about these. I might order a pair of the 5" midranges M.15.250.8.FCX... Looks very interesting and the rear is very open.
EDIT: oops, it's not in stock. Can't order any.
When in stock, can you get them in Germany?
Poland is just the next country over and in the EU, so yeah.
Cool.
I looked into this in the summer, I wanted a pair of,

Dear David,
The cost of shipment will be about 93 USD (by Fedex).

Seemed pretty steep to me, so I passed.
NM
Yeah, that is steep.

Our glass drivers shatter all acoustic boundaries as their clarity in sound reproduction are like looking through an open window.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Never seen a glass driver before. It has to be asked, how durable would they be?
Gorilla glass?
Pyrex is pretty sturdy stuff.
Can cook with it when it's thick enough, but how thin must it be for a cone? Paper, carbon fibre, poly, all that stuff weights ounces.
Looks like I will just have to settle for a pair of these...
https://www.kartesian-acoustic.com/wom165-vhe
They are only 5.5 times more expensive than the 5" STX mid, almost in Purifi territory, but performance seems to be extremely high...
The FR doesn't show, otherwise, they look fucking bad ass!
I see that. Here is a link to the datasheet:

Also, at the bottom of the product page are some Klippel measurements that are very encouraging.
Cost at TLHP (France) is 342 Euros each...
I like.!!!

Solen $459.62 CAD Each ($320.23 USD)

YIKES!
Yikes is right. I'll stick with my Aerogels ๐
Yes very, very pricey but build quality and performance seems very high. It also happens to have just the right FR up-turn around 1kHz for my intended use.
I would rather try the STX M15 mid. I left a message for the company but have not yet heard back about whether they plan to restock that driver.
I was poking around the STX web site and I realized that there is another 5" driver that IS in stock and seems very similar to the M15 midrange, it's the W15 midwoofer:
https://stx.pl/en/w-15-160-16-fcx.html
Note that the sensitivity for the W15 is 89dB but that is for a 4 Volt input!
Looking at the TS parameters of both drivers it seems that they nearly identical construction (cone, voice coil, demodulation) but the midrange has the flux focused into a narrower gap and so has higher sensitivity and lower Xmax but Xdamage is the same for both.
Thoughts?
