  • I like the look of those torx drive fasteners on the woofers... but the tweeters use regular old phillips drive fasteners :s

  • I should have him pay me to apply Duratex for him.

The pricing didn't seem super out there. I bet all his stuff is pretty low volume sales wise. And I wonder if someone in the US is doing the assembly... But the bare 3d printed waveguide.. gross.

Is he losing his mind. Just watch his videos.

  • Just drink the kool-aid and it will all be better...

Hell, he can pay me to Duratex his waveguides too.

There is a lot worse out there for multiples of that pricing, but yes having two different screw sets is a bit pedestrian

He does present / offer a good Xover update for the small Maggies

  • That's really one sad looking waveguide.

  • The way I see it, he can sell his product for whatever he likes, be it good or bad. I personally don't care if he sells a lump of coal as a pre diamond. Does anyone remember the TICE clock?
You've got to give him credit, he's got quite a following. I personally find his theories questionable, but to each their own.

I'm a little surprised these got such a good review from Erin. If you watch many of Dannie's videos, it seems that he does have a good grasp on speaker design. It's too bad he's not sharing much of that knowledge, instead of trying to convince stupid people to spend more on crossover parts than they paid for the speakers in the first place. I do agree that the waveguide looks horrible. At the retail price of the completed speaker, there's just no excuse for that. I understand it's expensive to have molds made, so that's not an option. But he really needs to find a source who has better 3D printers.

Yes, I don't get that at all. I can print a waveguide on my Ender printer in my basement, sand and paint it and have it look almost commercial quality. He could get SLS Nylon or whatever the other expensive material is from JLC3DP for not that much given his asking price.

I watch some of GR's videos; sometimes interesting, other times 'WTF'.

I'm not indulging in yet another cost v benefit of parts debate, but I can't understand how throwing ever increasing amounts of money on 'higher quality' XO parts, using the same drivers and crossover values, can result in anything other than diminishing returns.

I get that using higher quality parts in some commercial speakers could/can improve the sound, e.g. in using heavier gauge inductors in the woofer circuit.

There was one video entitled 'do parts matter' where a series of crossovers for one of GR's designs ended up looking like a platter of tapas, with huge caps and coils which must have cost about the same as a small car.

Would that really make such a big difference to the sound, as distinct from a placebo effect of 'I spent more, it must be better'?

As for the finishes in some of the products shown above, MAC/DIY members' builds look to have higher levels of craftsmanship.

  • Nothing to do with this particular product but everytime I try to watch one of his YT videos I can only make it through a few minutes before I either want to punch him in the face or turn it off laughing hysterically. What a maroon!
