Found a diy preamp for sale on Audiomart using the Korg Nutube.  Got curious.  Some of the first google hits were 6moons  http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/firstwatt4/1.html  and diyaudio  http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pass-labs/313612-b1-korg-triode.html  The first diy post is by none other than Nelson Pass.

Eval board is USD$100, which isn't too crazy. Looks like a good idea if you like 2nd order distortion, err..."warm tube sound".

Laptop bricks are generally 19.5V, the eval board says it works from 5V to 30V, so sure go ahead and use a spare laptop brick.

This looks like something very fun to play with but I already have too many irons in the fire.  I've been working on my Mustang a lot lately and I have two full blow speaker design projects going too.  I would love to read about anyone else's experiences with this however.

I think this is a fascinating piece. Should be a nice addition to micro sized chip amp units as a tube input stage.

It appears to be a durable and compact item for guitar pedals, etc, so could be a cool piece for car audio as well. It will be interesting if manufacturers embrace it and continue to develop it. Might make for a lot more modern entry level hi-fi preamps on the market, being less bulky, delicate, and “old school” for the younger generations that like high tech gadgets as well as retro tech.
