Ok, I thought about building a Sprite boombox speaker, but since I'm DIY I kind of want to do my own. I need a driver to start with though, here is what I am looking for:
- Small (5 inches or less)
- Small Box (1/3 cube or less)
- Extension (50 hz or less)
I don't care about sensitivity at all, its for background music.
Thoughts?

Quite a few will do the trick - especially if you tune it for an EBS. If you are going to set it somewhere like your desk or workbench, the EBS can be a very advantageous tuning.

I'll throw that one in there even though it exceeds your 5" or less constraint since the mounting depth is so shallow. IMO that opens up a lot of very small form factor enclosure types. The venerable Tang Band 5" subwoofer is also an option, although it is closer to a true 6" driver than a 5" driver. Tang Band used to have a 4" subwoofer, a 16 ohm version showed up in the buyouts a while back.
I hate browsing PE website - seems to hang on "processing request" quite often. Gets really sluggish when looking at poly caps.

Drivers are the TB W5-2053 woofer, Tectonic Elements TEBM46 three inch midrange, and Morel MDT-39 tweeter. The woofer is called a Real Balanced Mode (RBM) because it does not use a conventional spider. It has two cones and two rubber surrounds to give the voice coil a more balanced type motion. Lower THD is claimed by TB. The midrange is a "balanced mode radiator" with a composite type cone structure with improved vertical and horizontal polar response. I will be bringing these to Grinnell. Woofer tuning is 40Hz with an F3/6/10 of 39/35/32. Sensitivity is roughly 83dB 2.83V/1 meter. Gross internal volume is 3 liters!
The W4-2089 has the same specs as the W5-2053, so maybe I could make a last minute substitution. I'd have to figure out how to deal with the thick mounting flange on the W4, though. Bill
