Looks like I missed the buyout 10 uf poly caps at madisound that were cheap. Is there another place that has a similar price point? I have a wide range of npe's but not many poly's. How do the mylar caps compare to the poly's.
Basically for budget builds I dont mind cheap caps but was told some decent ones for designing more higher end designs.

We could have a very long discussion about caps, but for me I boil it down to the dielectric foils; polyester and polypropylene. Poly caps could mean either of those. The Polyester are cheap, widely available, and have a greater change in capacitance higher frequencies. Mylar is a type of polyester
Polypropylene have less change at higher frequencies and would be preferred for use over say 2K, they also cost more.
So for woofer shunts stock up on surplus polyester caps, like Erse (yellow), or Areovox at electronicsurplus.com.
For the high value polypro caps I like Erse Pulse X, Benic, Dayton
Here are easy ways to get some together:

Or buy a metric fuck-ton of these:

Twist and tie and solder to create any value you can dream of.
I keep meaning to build a couple multi-tap capacitor boards, try to save wear and tear on my collection of test 'n' tune caps.
I may be mistaken, but I believe mylar capacitors exhibit a lot more in common with electrolytic than with other film types - dissipation factor is quite high, IIRC. That being said, a buttload of the mylars from Erse isn't a bad thing to have on hand, either - especially when you are getting above that 20uF range.
Also, check out PE classifieds once in awhile - people sell crossover parts there. Rick Craig has (had? - been a few days) some.
