I have like 6 or 7 16"x48" panels that are unfinished because I didn't want to hot glue a speaker cloth and wanted a simple faster solution. A towel is a pretty cheap and fast way to secure it. they don't look bad and hold staples well.
The biggest reason why I've never done something like that is the availability of Ultratouch (1.5hr drive to HD) and the cost prohibition. Now I'll just have to run this by the 'rents to see if they're cool with towels on the wall haha, maybe I can find a blanket with some fancy print on it.

That should work, unless you live in Mexico Joking aside, yes, if I were to build acustic treatment I would try to source roxul or something similar (OC 703 comes to mind). In any case I found the results interesting and seeing a process of trial and error is always cool.
