Can you guys recommend a windows 10 laptop? This is a subject I’m fairly ignorant, and i know many of you are somehow in the computer know through work, speaker building, etc.
Willing to spend some dollars, but this will be mostly for surfing the web, speaker design (eventually ) and for coding/mechanic work on my car.
Thanks!

Coding/mechanic on car ... what type of port will that require?
Just a USB….. it’s a k+DCAN cable for BMW….
Is this too much computer?

Or is this closer to what i need?

Nothing you’ve described is an intense task requiring modern hardware. Both computers are fine, at least 16GB ram for anything modern which both include.
If it isn't too small for you, I have this one and can heartily recommend as it is very nice and suitable for normal use as you describe: https://microcenter.com/product/647194/hp-envy-13-ba1063cl-133-laptop-computer-refurbished-silver
and yes the first machine is a lot of laptop for what you are asking IMO
Looks perfect but no shipping . But I’ll see if i can find it elsewhere…
Thanks!
If you decide to go with a laptop with a smaller driver ( I did ) and want to upgrade , I picked up a larger samsung drive and cloned the original drive to the larger drive using the samsung drive and utlilty , worked pretty slick and had no issues moving everything over . You will most likely need a dock to do this , but the dock was pretty cheap on amazon
Joey - check the HP outlet site - hp.com/au-en/shop/hp-outlet-refurbished
EDIT - Strike that link - not much available right now.
I do agree with Steve on refurbished machines. I have a nice MacBook Air as my daily driver, but I have a refurbed Windows laptop for speaker design.
Just an FYI - I use Newegg.com for PC purchases and I have 4 refurbished laptops from them (Dell, ASUS) and 2 desktops (Dell and HP) and have had zero problems with them.
Upgrades are easy and I have installed Solid State Drives (SSD's) in all of then - cloning software is free from Crucial.com if you buy from them (or used to be).
Good luck.
This one looks like a really good deal and has free shipping --> https://www.newegg.com/black-dell-latitude-e5470-mainstream/p/1TS-000A-0GCV1?Item=9SIBAD3J4N9374
Check around and read the reviews to find something you like and can manage.
Thanks guys. Steve, that linked one seems perfect. Budget friendly, great memory for what I’ll be doing, i have a back up 2TB hard drive instead of keeping it all on the laptop, seems kind of light, battery life appears a bit meh but most of my unplugged use would be under an hour anyway.
Unless anyone has more input on that machine or others i’ll snatch that one up next payday.
I use a Dell Latitude 5400 (no "e") series daily for work, it's a fine laptop, nice and light weight and sturdy enough. Mine has a USB-C / thunderbolt connection which I really like for connecting a external dock for monitors and external devices at my desk, then I just have a single connection to unplug and go on the move.
I think the option you've got there is a good deal, you should jump on it.
Steve's recommendation looks good.
For those of you who want to upgrade to a SSD, you don't need a dock. They make USB to Sata cables that work fine for SSD's.

Just make sure the SSD maker has cloning software available. You may need a spacer if the drive height isn't the same.
Ron
Ill be dipped , wish I about the cable when I cloned my drive . Wouldve saved a few bucks , dang it
Joey - I found another that is a better deal IMO - Cheaper, larger SSD with a very capable CPU --> https://www.newegg.com/dell-latitude-7280/p/N82E16834343559?Item=9SIBAD3J5B6410
I think I would go with this ^ one if I were buying right now.
Check the specs and port locations and see if it works for you.
Free shipping too.
Choices, choices! Buying a computer is worse than buying a car as far as decisions on specs & features.
That said, if you want to spend a bit more, here's a slightly newer HP that's a business-class machine. Those are usually a little more durable and built to be serviced.

Here's a review - https://laptopmedia.com/review/hp-elitebook-840-g6-review-one-for-the-classy-business-people-out-there/#verdict
Woah, that HP looks like a hell of a machine. Looks very future proof. Time to weigh options!!!
That HP is a heckuva machine for $539!
The SSD is a bit small, but can easily be upgraded later.
You will always love 32GB of RAM.
x2 on the HP elite - can't beat a nvme drive for quick boot up times.
https://ebay.com/itm/275228944714 Acer A515-46-R14K $193.59 before tax and free shipping. 4GB RAM, but you can add another 8GB stick for $25 or so.
HP Elite on it’s way! Excited! Anything i should do with it when i first receive it?
Nice higher end laptop. I would try and get rid of any bloatware that might be on it
Is that simply deleting it off? Or is there a better way?
I prefer to re-install windows, but that can be a pain locating drivers and such. So, an option would be to check what it is installed and Google the name and see if you really need it.
X2 - definitely clean off all unwanted programs.
Since it is a refurb using a corporate license and not a new PC it is unlikely to contain any more than a clean install of the operating system - at least that is how all of my refurbished PC's showed-up.
Let us know how it looks when you receive it.
Normally, you would go into the SYSTEM menu and open PROGRAMS/APPS and uninstall them there rather than just deleting files/folders otherwise you will goof-up the system REGISTRY.
Bad juju.
Steve, correct, or so it appears. Fresh install, seems nothing else is on here. Love the keyboard, from the size of the keys to the tactical feel to the backlighting...... I literally just got it up and running and was wondering if any of you use Edge or go to Chrome...... The convenience of all my stuff already being in google has me itching to switch.
Thanks so much for this recommendation, first blush love!
Been using BRAVE browser for a while now and like it - built on Chrome/Google - give it a try.
I love backlit keyboards too!
