Accidental Discovery . . .
Setting aside some old Acculab Cabinets that I am finally working upon again I found that they made nice baffle extension-wings which improved directivity and midbass punch - Thought I would share the experience for grins.
I set them there while I was letting the glue dry upon these face-frames that will allow me to attach the PA310-8's to them and maybe some 6" coaxials in the top section eventually:
It occurs to me that I could just make a deflector/baffle-extension that is attached with a hinge to the sides of these or other speakers that covers the drivers when not in use and be deployed to control directivity when listening and be customizable for when I am listening alone in the sweet spot or have guests sitting all over the room.

Adding baffle extensions/wings to these HiVi RT1.3WE Planar/Ribbon tweeters doesn't help at all - sounds better boosting the mids and lows with the baffle extensions and leaving the tweeters alone . . . The bass is cleaner and less boomy too . . .

Hey, "Dr. Directivity" [TKTRAN] How about experimenting a bit with this concept (angled baffle extensions - not the beer) and see if you can quantify its effects as I am finding it interesting and useful here.
Might make cheaper drivers perform better . . . .
Try this track with and without baffle extensions [Cardboard?] and play with the angles of them [Relative to the listening position - I'm currently at about 135* off of the speaker baffles with the wings/deflectors and about 10' away from the stereo pair about 8' apart] and see if you get better power response, separation & imaging as I am definitely getting:
If you can find it on High Def streaming, instead - do it.

The effects of baffle witdth are well understood. Angling the baffle forward will have more negative than positive effects on any frequency under the baffle witdh. The positive effects will still be there with the baffle angled back.
If your speakers had the correct baffle step before then you just gave the speaker a bass a boost in that frequency band effected by the added baffle.
