  • Love that baffle!

It looks rather nice, could pass for a retail product; the mid looks like an SB Acoustics ceramic driver. The cabinet construction and XO look good too and better than many (most?!) retail products . 950 pounds is a little pricey but you would end up with a cool result - if it sounds good.

  • Erin's Audio Corner just posted a review of this speaker:

Thanks, that was interesting - possibly not an option for us in Oz as the kit would be around A$1900 and the shipping about $400, although that's still value in terms of the commercial competition.

Having said that, the XO parts would cost around $250 and a cabinet maker would charge around $800 - $1000 a pair to build it, plus the driver cost - around A$500 - so it could be a good option after all.

I suspect the cabinet maker would baulk at the baffle shape, but.

  • Bromo with 5 inch, though sure xover different. Was good to see quality components in xover, think it targeting beginners. Often wondered what the effect of removing the phase guide and putting into waveguide. In electronics world, would be analogous to building hypex or other class D amp where just final assembly. Tough market as diyer's can be reluctant to pay for any IP or value add service and only look at material cost - not all but many.

  • Nothing against the kit, I hope it does well...but as a DIYer, Brandon/Augerpro/Somasonus has a waveguide for the SB26CDC so creating something like this wouldn't be too hard. I bet it sounds good, as those drivers are nice.

The Bromo is an 'open source' kit here so the plans and XO are freely available; would be interesting to compare the sound with this kit.

Not to be mister negative, as always good to provide a gateway into diy given having success builds confidence, but I wonder how many other youtube channels will start to talk about the kit in coming weeks - they like a herd. And at least I respect Erin more than others.

  • interesting that ASR had a very similar product reviewed this week: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/ascilab-c5b-review.58753/

I forgot about this, because there hasn't been a lot of progress, but Augerpro is actually designing this. He is even having Erin do Klippel testing.
