I'm 46, about to be 47 in a few days. I've been playing rhythm guitar on acoustic for a quarter century and I love it, but it's time I get some distortion in my life. I want a little wah-wah. When I play "Creep" I want some real pain to come out of the guitar, not just a harder acoustic strum. "Back in Black" just doesn't have the same weight on acoustic. You know what I'm saying.
There seem to be any number of decent electric guitars on the market for a few hundred bucks, but I know some people collect them like we all collect drivers and amps and xo parts. Just wondering if anyone of my people here has an extra axe that's looking for a home in exchange for some random drivers, xo parts, or a pair of Outlaw 2220 amps, etc., or even cash if it makes sense. Lemme know and Happy Holidays!

Wish I had something to offer. Oldest daughter has a Les Paul Special, it's nothing extraordinary but it is a really good learners guitar. We bought it from a local guitar shop for just over $100 it was discounted because there was a blemish in the finish. A kit with amp, strap, and gig bag can be a great addition as well.
Coming from an acoustic you might want to try some electric guitars to see how you like their neck shape. Most acoustic guitars have a faily thick neck, some electric are much more thin and can make the transition back and forth difficult. If you want to make the drive Elderly instruments in lansing was always the go to spot. I liked the vibe there as they seemed like they wanted you to pick up and handle the guitars. More than once staff would see me and my friends and they would tell us to grab a guitar and usher us into the amp room and plug us in. Bought a squire p bass in 1999 and they threw in the strap and a cable for free. Good times...
Bass guitar is fun as hell. My buddy gave me one for my birthday a couple years ago - never knew what I was missing. I've kind of run the gamut of musical instruments, but never the one that everyone starts with - electric guitar. Does your daughter still play?
My oldest daughter does not play but my youngest daughter is very musically gifted and wants to start playing. The youngest currently plays french horn/mellophone, trombone, trumpet, piano and starting guitar.
I only play the radio
If I had one, I would. I gave my acoustic to a buddies daughter who wanted to start learning. She's quite the player now!
It is a good idea to hit a local store to get your hands on a few to see what interests you. I've always preferred Ibanez because of the thin neck profile. Also has a great feature/quality for what you pay.
A friend who is a fantastic guitar player loves his Ibanez Les Paul more than any Gibson Les Paul he's played. I love how my Fender Strat plays. I just wish it had humbucker pickups.
Ibanez vs acoustic is almost as far apart as guitars get. Ibanez is a great value and despite that they are associated with metal they are very versatile in their sound with lots of pickup options and configurations.
Not one that I could describe before seeing it.

I'm betting he's a Warlock type of guy...

I figured he'd have an axe like Gene Simmons, or a square one like Diddley.

G&L makes some nice units.
Some say G&L is where Leo Fender went to make his best designs. Double humbucker telle nice/interesting combo. Covers a lot of ground for musical style.
If Dan whipped out an ES-355 like he was a white B.B. King I would just chuckle and think "funky white boy". π
Fender < MusicMan < G&L
I'm into that. The Outlaw amps would be a good straight up swap value-wise. If not, are you looking for anything in particular?

Most music stores that do set-ups are around $100. Well worth it for a go through and strings.
Here's a pic of a happy guy reflected in the back of his first electric guitar. It's even sexier in person than it was in the pics. I couldn't have picked one I liked more if I was given free range at Guitar Center. Thanks Nick!
haha, knob cover.
What did you call me?!
Rock!!
Yep, that Nick is a good fella. We were talking pre/pro the other day so he can take advantage of those amps.
If you don't have an amp yet, the Boss Katana is a nice unit that has a bunch of effects and stuff already in it to play around with. Line6 makes some decent entry-level stuff too.
An affordable step into a tube amp is the VHT Special 6 and Special 6 Ultra.
Or a Positive Grid Spark

I don't have one yet and I'll definitely check those out. Haven't looked much into amps.
This is the only amp I had actually been looking at since a friend had raved about it months ago. Without knowing exactly what I'll want out of it, it seems to check a lot of boxes including price and size. Do you have one? What do you like about it?
Let me know what you think, I might grab the same one.
I don't have one. A friend from work has one and raves about it. It can model an old Fender, Marshall, Hiwatt, Orange, etc. And any effect pedal you can think of is built in. He has if linked to an app on his phone so he can just touch his phone to switch between "pre setup sounds". I guess the only downside is that stand alone it's more of a practice amp. It can't get crazy loud only having a pair of 4" drivers. When his wife is not home and he wants to rock out he plugs the line out into a standard 12" combo amp for insane volume.
Play guitar while riding a unicycle. That takes skill.
I bet Dan could do it...
