Milwaukee Jobsite Radio Parts

This is a long shot ... someone at work tossed this Milwaukee portable radio into the rubbish bin. Both woofers have the magnet broken off and the voice coil damaged. Oddly enough, the magnet appears to be held onto the basket with only glue. Only id I can find on the woofer is Hon Son 8ohm 20w. It has an odd oval shape and the mounting holes are not evenly spaced around the basket rim. The amp uses a tas5766m purepath chip, which looks to be fairly decent.

Since we like to fix audio stuff here, I wonder if anyone knows of a replacement woofer, or a good place to start looking? So far I can find nothing on the net about a replacement and as of yet, no luck on aliexpress.

  • I have a Milwaukee Job Site radio that I picked up used from a contractor that did some work on my house several years ago. But it appears to be a much larger radio and it uses the older style NiCad batteries. It is a two way with two 4.5 inch diameter woofers and two 0.75 inch diameter tweeters spaced about a foot apart. This is not even close to the size of your drivers.

  • A Dayton ND91 might just fit, but who knows if it's even close the right T/S specs.

  • Damn, that must have fallen off a ladder!

Wish I was more help, but maybe one of those little Peerless SDS drivers would do the trick. I think Digikey might have them in stock.

Ha, the sds magnet won't even fit in the space behind the woofer. Hard part is going to be matching the mounting hole spacing as there is no other place for a screw to go and it's odd spacing really narrows the choices to zero.

  • Didn't fall. Kid got mad and slammed it on the floor.

  • Damn kids.

  • Sometimes I feel like a child daycare worker ...

  • The ND91 frame looks like the closest fit. to match the original mounting I would cut the original frame to make a mounting ring to go over the ND91and modify the ND91 if needed.

  • You may be on to something there. Worse comes to worse, I'll see if boy can draw and print some kind of adapter. Still leaves me with the unknown t/s of the oem woofer, but these things don't sound that great to start with.

  • I briefly looked at that chip and noticed it has something they call "Bass Q-compensation and Frequency Extension". I didn't dive deep enough to know what that actually is, but I'm pretty sure it's how they are getting bass output from a small driver in a tiny box.

  • Oh yeah, I'd be surprised if they were not doing some kind of eq and bass management.

  • glue the magnet back on. I did that with the Aura ND-90 look alike and it was fine.

John H, btw forum has decided I don't get emails
  • Voice coils are damaged and stick the cone in place. Don't think it's something fixable, but might give it a go.
