Raal Headphones

Maybe this is old news and I finally heard about it under my rock.. So raal (or raaaaaaaaaal if you prefer) has headphones now. $3500, BYO 50-150w power amp.

  • They sure are unattractive. I'm trying to determine how they could possibly be comfortable. I guess they just sit suspended away from your ear, held by the licorice sticks. Odd design. With a 100W amp requirement, not really headphones, but super near field monitors ;)
I'm not deaf, I'm just not listening.
  • Yeah they definitely aren’t much to look at.. here is a pic from the website on some dudes head:

I’d be interested to hear them though, I have no reason to believe they dont sound pretty decent.

  • Cute hair.... for a girl  :p
  • I've listened to a few pair of ribbon-esque cans in the past. Hopefully Raal got it right, or maybe they are counting on 100W blasting directly into the listeners brain, destroying every cilia on the way, or maybe they are pretty sweet. Won't be long before Harman gets their hands on a pair and runs them through the wringer.

I'll stick with my Audio-Technica and AKG for now. If they are on display at Axpona this next April, I'll give them a listen. I really hope they fare better than the other planar/ribbon types I have listened to.

    I have a signature.
  • When I was in college, I owned a pair of Stax SR-44s. They were considerably better than any speaker I heard until the Martin Logan CLS (yes, I know I'm dating myself here).  Every once in a while, the idea of DIYing a pair of electrostatic headphones traipses through my brain.  Probably a crazy idea...
  • There was an interview awhile ago with Aleksander saying he was working on a headphone version, but I never knew if anything came of it.

I like the Audeze LCDs I've heard.
  • may want to check these out (2nd gen janszen is carrying on w/ electrostat spkrs, and now headphones)

  • Not entirely headphone related post but has anyone heard or tried

    bone conduction technology?

I know PE sells a bone conducting transducer. Never tried one though.

  •   I see you get a nice pelican watertight case to go with your headphones.  Tempting, but I think I'll pass.  Will have to make due with my HD600's.
