(Don't worry, the retro monkey coffin is still an active project, just have the stuff ready for this one).
Drivers are the 5" SB poly and the GRS RT3.0 which I picked up on sale for $55.
Here is how the woofer models:
Large enclosure for a 5", but the tradeoff for a 40Hz F3 is well worth it in my opinion.
Anyways, baffles are off to JuleFidelity since I suck at routing anything but a circle.
Will be a simple, straightforward design with 1" round-overs.

The peaky response around 10k has me pondering what I'm going to do to avoid excessive sibilance. Should be a fun challenge.
I found that the Neo3 was kinda picky to get right, and the balance between sibilance and being dull was a very fine line. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Looking forward to your distortion measurements and subjective thoughts. I think I have decided to get a pair (unless you end up being disappointed) but sadly the sale on these ended yesterday so I guess I'll wait for Black Friday.
The employee did an outstanding job cutting these.! Lol

They look great!
Those tweeters sure look cool. Hope they sound as good as they look!!
I can pick them up Saturday morning if that works?
That works.

If those 5" SB poly drivers sound anything like the 6" I used in my Indy 2024 theme project... you have a winning combo right there JR!
Interested to see where you cross the ribbon.. wondering about pairing with the dmb-a.
Now that my post-event DIY fatigue has started to fade away, I plan on getting these glued up tonight, and the last bit of router work done tomorrow.
I also scored a NIB pair of Usher 7" this weekend, and figure I might as well do an old school design using the original Reference tweeters. Would be a build I wanted to do 15 (or more?) years ago but couldn't really afford until the Usher went NLA.
These already look great. I can't wait to see more.
My wallet is happy you bought those Ushers. I know you'll make them sing!
Little progress today.
The pairing resembles an exclamation point in the written language - something to ponder as you develop your XO and decide on a name . . .
Ive always wondered why we dont see more poly builds , or at least me anyways
Just not that many poly options these days.
So they are assembled and ready for measurements, maybe tomorrow night see how shit goes here.
Thats a few ounces of Acoustastuff right behind the midwoofer, and some vinyl backed denim on the sidewalls. Remnants from a build Nick and I collaborated on.
Poly is so nice to work with, I don't understand why it fell out of favor.
Because it measures more poorly than cheaper materials like paper and some feel it overdamps the sound.
I disagree...

I feel like my whole life I've been offered "Paper or Plastic" I don't see any reason to stop now.
Going to measure tomorrow night come hell or high water.
Grabbed baffle measurements today, woofer outstanding, tweeter a hot mess lol.
I was able to do some quick modeling, and the combo should prove useful.
That peak at 1.5k is brutal. Looking forward to seeing how you work that out.
I just luv the floor crossover component pic - this is (post scribble on paper) the ‘fun’ part. So many options.
Floor mess, my favorite part of this hobby.
... and no dog!
