Great, would like your comments on it.... I might get one too... provided it is not total crap. These are not power tubes, do they still get pretty hot?
Yes, even small signal tubes get hot. Not as hot as big power tubes, but certainly too hot to touch without leaving a blister. The small driver tube in my KT88 SET amp probably runs at about 160-180 F. Just a guess as I have never actually measured it.
If you don't mind waiting I will bring this little amp to SD in two weeks so you can hear it. I know the sale price is only good through Monday though.
Mine came in today, haven't hooked it up yet but there's some weight to it. Looks to use Chinese 6N2-J tubes. I believe the J suffix is classified as military spec , I may be wrong. Might be on the search for some Russian tubes in the near future.
I got mine too today, was supposed to be delivered tomorrow.... BTW, the sale price is still valid.... Craig did you get yours and how does it sound to you? We are all tube noobs...
Just got home and hooked mine up. Only one channel works
Looking through the bottom plate vent slits the solder joints on the pcb look pretty F'n crappy. I hope it's just a bad connection. Doubt I would send this thing back. Just repurpose the nice looking enclosure and connectors for my own tube preamp design and a TDA7492 amp board.
Good to know , I'll take the bottom off and take a look at mine. From what I've heard ,not bad. I have them running off of a pair of JR's two way speakers
no, not yet.... but i am going to try tomorrow.... but i don't have any small efficient speakers on hand, all are power hogs.... but i'll dig something out to try.
How are you measuring the temperature of the tubes?
Sounding good, but the the left tube seems to be glowing brighter than the right tube.... guess that's what you meant by the tubes being at a different temperatures....
I ordered one. A little anemic on power and not bad sounding, but only auditioned it for about 15-20 minutes before leaving for work. Will give it a workout later.
