  • Try Krylon Black semi-flat.
I'm not deaf, I'm just not listening.
  • My goto rattlecan brand for color is always Krylon. The best, full stop. I think Minwax and Deft have satin or matte clear spray on finishes.
But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
  • General Finishes Milk Paint black and a foam roller.  Great low sheen without scuff issues.

John H, btw forum has decided I don't get emails
  • I tried the Krylon flat black with a matte topcoat. It turned out quite well, but I'm a bit concerned about its durability. The waveguide now doesn't fit in it's opening and while trying to make it fit, I managed to cause bits of the black to flake off, showing the white primer underneath (see the lower picture). I may add a few coats of General Finish High Performance flat poly after I fix this new problem.  Still, good progress.  Next time, I'll try the milk paint. I love General Finish products.  I'll use the semi-gloss High Performance on the cherry veneer, over dewaxed shellac to highlight the grain and darken it up a bit.
