I recently pulled an old Sylvania DVD player from the bonepile and hooked it up to my Emotiva preamp via coax. Very compact, works great and sounds fantastic. Even the remote works, though its HUGE by today's standards. More buttons than needed for CD playback, obviously.

  • I use my Oppo for the rare times I spin physical media. It is just a transport though, I use the DAC in the big Marantz to do the heavy lifting.

  • New Table saw anyone?

  • Because of things beyond my control, I might actually have time to indulge another passion of mine. Been too long since I got a line wet.

  • It seems I've hit the "Too old for Rock & Roll" phase now. My wife & I went to see 49 Winchester, The Mavericks, & Dwight Yoakam on Friday night in our med sized arena. I looked for my trusty old Westone custom earplugs, but couldn't find them before we left the house. 49 Winchester started the show and the PA was at full-tilt! So much for the opening act warming up the audiences' ears. I ended up grabbing some napkins from concessions and wadding up some little balls to stick in my ears. I should have known - we were right in front of the mix position and I noticed the main speaker hangs were angled slightly out from center, despite having separate shorter side arrays to cover the extreme angles. They were obviously fighting a hot spot down the center and couldn't fix the problem with the boxes they had on hand. If you walked 15 feet to the side, the searing high end got much more bearable, but it was still too loud for me.

Have not been to live music of any kind for a few years now, just too hard on the ears. How was Dwight?

We only go to classical and small venue jazz these days; we got tired of loud, poor and harsh sound, crap venues and idiots who thought they could leave their brains and manners in the car park.

  • Have four interviews with Amazon today. They really take maintenance managers seriously. Will be life changing money if I land this position. I know Amazon is the evil empire to some, but their benefits package is outstanding.

  • That's strange - I'm not seeing when threads have been updated.

Dwight was good. His voice is still good and his band is top notch. The Mavericks were even better - at least for me and my wife. We really dig their Tejano/Cuban vibe!

  • Good luck on the interview, JR!

  • First one down. Not confident about it, though. He asked some pretty hard questions. Hope next three are better, they are all with other maintenance managers.

  • Second one went better, first round was HR this round (and the next two) are all other maintenance managers leading the interview. Yes, four interviews in one day for this role. Stressful. Contrary to popular belief I am not in love with my own voice and this is going to be a lot of talking in one day lol.

  • Relax. Think good thoughts. You got this.

  • There's a new LP format.

Big News for Vinyl Lovers! Introducing the SpinDown™ LP Format!

Audiophiles rejoice. Just in time for Record Store Day, there's a groundbreaking new vinyl format hitting shelves this April 1: SpinDown™ LPs. Engineered specifically for music lovers in the southern hemisphere, these revolutionary discs spin counter-clockwise, aligning playback with the Earth's natural rotation below the equator.
Why counter-clockwise? According to renowned vinyl physicists, the SpinDown™ LP interacts harmoniously with the Coriolis Effect, resulting in a subtler, warmer soundstage and significantly improved "rotational coherence."

Northern hemisphere listeners may initially find playback "subtly disorienting," yet early reviews from audiophile circles in Oslo and Toronto report increased musical nuance, richer tonality, and remarkably fluid transients—differences you'll have to hear to believe. Why it works so well up north is not known.
Coming soon, reverse-spin classics from your favorite artists. Get ready to experience music as nature intended: upside down!

Excellent, up there with the failure of the 1951 spaghetti harvest and left handed Mars Bars!
