So, decided I am almost ready to do a retro style build. Woofer will be that white cone GRS 10" (10SFPC-W), mid will be the 8 ohm Dayton DMA105-8, and "tweeter" will be the Dayton DMA58-4. I would have used the 1-1/2" version but the sensitivity wasn't there. As-is it will have to be a full BSC design which is not truly in the spirit of things but it is what it will be. I chose the DMA line for the mid/high drivers due to the very nice motor they process and the square frames are a more or less cosmetic match for the really cool looking woofer.
Anyways, a rare design for me (no NLA components).
Have not named it yet, will have to do a lot of thinking on this one. I have some ideas, but have not really worked through them all yet.
Wife is traveling today through Monday so I can possible get flat packs cut. Am targeting 2.5 cubic feet or so, yielding an F3 of 42 Hz and a fun little 1.5db bump centered at 70Hz.
Have a good day, all of you.

I've not really seen much done with DMAs so that aught to be a treat!
Bonus points on the 2" since it appears to be an aluminum cone without a breakup mode below 20khz.
Yeah, they have excellent build quality and copper in the motor and limited breakup. Should make for fine cone mid and tweet.
Still working through the details on this one, wondering how faithful to those Fischer and Optimus speakers I want to be.
My brother is still rocking his 15" Fisher 3 ways from 89.. White cone with huge black dust caps.
Those were cool. Still have a soft spot for white cones because of the old Fisher stuff.
Roughly the look I'm going for:
Hence the cone mid and tweeter.
Mine will be sealed and will not have the foot but otherwise the overall geometry appeals to me.
I like any type of speaker build that uses the word "retro" to describe it. Good luck with this project, JR!
It needs the foot. Come on!
Big toe energy
I agree
The frequency response curve on the baffle would be a nice touch.

Yeah, no foot. I may build a pair of tilted stands, though. Those were pretty popular in the 70s and 80s.
I just need a nice silver faced receiver and turntable to flesh it out.
👎🏼
...and pull out a pair of 70's bell bottoms, and a lava lamp
And some ditch weed?
A Radio Shack Color Organ!
It'll drop Fs and sensitivity a little, but you have to glue on some oversize dustcaps on those woofers. I've always loved that look.
Found this walnut vinyl on Amazon:
Perfect
Any experience if that stuff sticks to paint?
All the vinyl I have used likes a smooth surface to stick to.
I like! Grew up with that speaker finish and it never stood out as a sore point.
Yeah, I'm doing this for sure.
What if a guy was to paint those aluminum dust caps white ?
I am fairly sure I would fuck that up, plus to be honest I am pushing sensitivity matches as-is and added mass on the little fellers might be a hassle.
What if someone painted those mid and tweet frames white while you were sleeping and you woke up at 3AM and saw it, would you think it terrible ?
Hell yeah! Gotta love that fizz ya get when you stack the drivers and it is badass.
Wonder if the flange thickness of the 2" is anything standard that you might be able to fab up a square surrounding plate that matches the size of the mid.
Smoked my share back in the day.
