Kenny, I'd like to take them to MWAF. They're a gift and I'd have to borrow them and I need to figure out if I'll have the finances to get there this year. They could definitely make it to DIY Iowa. This it the CE65W-8 1 meter measurement with the mic on the lower end of the tweeter axis. The rear camber is made from a 3" mailing tube that's about 7"'s long. I lined the front part of the tube with a piece of cotton towel and filled the rear with cotton insulation. I'm using it from 2k to 5K 24db/oct.
Looks matter - this red 3-way will have almost all red components in the crossover. All Audyn caps (and there are a lot of them) and all Dayton 18awg coils (and there are a lot of them).
That little 3" MCM is nice enough, but I will never use it again. It proved to be as problematic as the Dayton PS95 (in fact, the two are almost identical as regards linear distortion) and there is a peak in the response (visible in the Dayton published data, incidentally) that required the notch filter on the mid circuit. That leaves me with very little sensitivity to sacrifice.
Anyways, heres to swimmin with bow legged women and crimson crossovers in crimson cabinets.
Well, the parts are still in-transit (the price you pay for 'free' shipping I suppose, so it will be next week before it is all done.
In the meantime, the wife and I have this on Thursday:
Saturday night we are staying in the hotel at the Grand Falls Casino - we need a night out, the two of us.
Friday night we have something going on, as well.
So, i am closing the chapter on winter plans - and will create a thread detailing the 3-way build and shelf it until DDIY so I can finish up one other build before then.
Winter is almost over and so are these. I finished up the crossover sims last night and ordered the parts. I'm going to get some black #4 screws for the tweeters. All Dayton with Nd105-8, CE65W-8 and PTMini-6.

I had to drill out the screw holes to get the #4s to fit
I found some black #4 screws online and they fit without drilling. I got to listen to them today and I'm a little disappointed with the low end. Measurements show the port tuning is a little low so hopefully I can improve that.
Where do you source your Audyn caps - I am liking the red! And what resistors are those?
Apparently, if you accidentally click inside of the gray zone indicating quoting - you are not allowed to click anywhere else again. Strange bug.
As Craig noted, I buy the caps at PE. Most of them are cheaper than the Bennic/Dayton option, and are better looking. I'll leave the sonic signature commentary to those who enjoy that kind of discussion.
The resistors I purchased on fleabay - I have not seen them for awhile now. They ended up about $1/apiece and I had originally purchased four or five values.
I too like the Audyn Q4 (red caps) better than the Dayton, Solen, or Bennics I've used. They have larger diameter leads, a 400 VDC rating (compared to Dayton's 250 VDC), and are cheaper. I've measured dozens of them and have never found one to be outside 1% tolerance.
How did you fasten the iron core inductors down? I just built a crossover with the new Dayton inductors and missed the screw holes for mounting and longer leads that other coils have. The price was certainly an improvement.
I built my crossover on 1/4 Baltic birch and stapled a zip tie in place on each end of the inductor. I put some hot melt glue in a few spots to keep things from wiggling around. It works bu it's not as tidy as the versions that have screw holes.

Well, for some reason pictures I take horizontally with my iPhone like to get stupid when imported to a real computer, but you get the idea.
Either that, or this software does not respect my authoritay - since it has been rotated and saved and shows as such in Windows Explorer etc.
Oh well. Price we pay for pretending phones are a reasonable substitute for real cameras I guess.
