  • Really don't care about the color. Pricewise how does your 15 uF 160 V cap compare to the Audyn Q4 15 uF 400 V cap from PE? In most of my projects the caps never see more than 12 - 16 Volts rms. So 160 V is A-OK.

  • $8.14 - Audyn 400v 15uF
    $6.49 - JF 400v 15uF
    $3.49 - JF 160v 15uF
Plus or -$.10. Somewhere in there.

  • I'm not sure I could screw up a crossover bad enough to get 160V across a capacitor. It wouldn't be for lack of trying.

Keep an open mind, but don't let your brain fall out.

  • Not even +/-80V? That is a 160V swing. This is why a lot of companies recommend the 250V over the 100V rating. The +/-50V is not hard to breach sometimes. Just saying that it is possible to breach at 100V, less likely at 160+V. The other reason for the higher voltage ratings is lower ESR and more contact surface area for lower contact resistance too. Or at least that is what I've read. I have used 2kV rated caps, and they have sounded just as fine as the regular 400V caps.

Well…. They got the size right. But that’s not the color I ordered🤦🏻‍♂️. T

The most important question in the thread so far...what color are they supposed to be?

  • I think they are great looking, I'm a bit partial to white/red though.

  • 160 was just so we could get the size down. The 160’s were supposed to be yellow on yellow and the 400’s white on white. They all measure well inside the 5%. That’s a plus

  • The amplifier might have a +/- swing of 160 volts but the cap never sees that across its leads

  • Yellow always reminds me of the mylar/ metalized polyester ERSE caps.

Here’s the problem with them being the Same color. Different series should be different in some way.

  • Will the wrong color ones will show up on your E-bay page?

    Yes. And my website.

  • Well, something did go right today. My mold pulled fine. Which is a plus. From concept to reality. These are an MTM 8 or an MTM 10 that will hang on the wall like my other julefidelity Speakers I already have 24 of them sold.

They’re on our website already if you want to look at prices. Will put them on eBay this weekend.

  • Well I hope there's some left by the time I'm at that stage in my build.

  • Let’s see if we can get a part pulled today.?
Five coats of wax, some PVA and some gelcoat.

  • First part pulled little rough, but not bad for unseasoned mold

  • What are they?

  • All hand layup? Seems like that would be time consuming.

Took about a hour to hand lay.

  • You think they could spend a little of the price tag on better packaging.

Mine looked similar when they arrived.

  • That packaging is definitely disappointing - did the other component arrive safely?

    I have a signature.

The others will be here this week. There was some miscommunication when ordering the first time.

  • Cool, let me know!
